About this Event
Inspired by the sacred methodology of “using what you have on you” that many of our Black and Indigenous communities, aunties, mothers, and grandmothers have carried, Seed to Quilt: Beloved Fragments is an intimate gathering with cultural workers, artists, and land stewards that explores traditional and new alternative modes, techniques, and tools to exchange memory, relate to time, and develop language.
Over the course of a year we grew dye gardens, organized collective community harvests, and were supported with donations and land access collaborations with farmers in Hillsboro, Portland, and Wapato Island.
After meeting over the winter, spring, and summer, we deepened and developed relationships with Poke Berry, Marigold, Hibiscus, and Indigo, dyeing and quilting a piece that documents and holds the work and medicine of our time and carries on as a living archive.
We do this work to remain connected to our stories and each other while repairing our ability to gather and recreate lifeways that sustain.
Join Seed to Quilt steward Bridgette Hickey for a quilt talk exploring memory and language, and a debut exhibition of the completed quilt!
