Preparing to take the GED test? Join our free weekly GED tutoring sessions for support, practice, and guidance as you work toward passing your test. The session meets once a week for two hours and is open to anyone preparing for the GED, regardless of your current skill level. Get help reviewing key subjects, strengthening your test-taking skills, working through challenging questions, and building confidence. Everyone is welcome—come learn, practice, and take the next step toward getting your GED!
Week 1: Orientation & Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) – Reading
- Class Focus: Introduction to the GED computer system. Reading comprehension strategies, identifying the main idea, and analyzing author purpose.
- Homework: Complete a 30-minute RLA reading practice test. Read 2 opinion articles and summarize their main points.
Week 2: RLA – Writing & Extended Response
- Class Focus: Understanding the essay prompt. How to draft a 3-paragraph argument using text evidence. Grammar essentials (sentence structure and punctuation).
- Homework: Write one practice essay based on a provided prompt. Read 15 minutes a day.
Week 3: Social Studies
- Class Focus: Deciphering historical documents, political cartoons, and charts. High-yield topics: US History (the Revolution and the Civil War), Civics (3 branches of government), and Economics basics.
- Homework: Complete the Social Studies practice module. Review a timeline of major US historical events.
Week 4: Science
- Class Focus: Reading scientific passages, diagrams, and data tables. The Scientific Method. High-yield topics: Life science (cells and genetics), Physical science (force and energy), and Earth science.
- Homework: Complete the Science practice module. Practice calculating mean, median, and mode from scientific data.
Week 5: Mathematical Reasoning – Part 1
- Class Focus: Master the TI-30XS calculator (essential skill for saving time). Whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and basic word problems.
- Homework: Complete 30 basic math word problems using the official calculator.
