Get Ready! The native Texas Seed Swap will be held on November 14 at Headwaters at the Comal. The time is 10 AM to noon. If you missed it last year, you missed a treat, so mark your calendar now! SignUpGenius is also ready for your signup, click here:

What you may bring:
Locally gathered (Comal, Guadalupe, Hays County) native Texas seeds
Cleaned, dry, and packaged in individual envelopes or bags OR in a labeled jar with a spoon
Labels should include:
Botanical & common name
County gathered
Month & Year collected
Sun/Shade preference
How the Swap works:
Even trade: Example: Bring 10 packets/take 10 packets (but don't take all or most of one type available)
No seeds? No problem! You may choose up to 3 packets
What not to bring:
Non-native, hybrid, or invasive species
Seeds not ready for swapping (still on branch, still green, not labeled)
Chapter volunteers for this event may swap seeds too!
Attendees, please indicate on sign up which seeds you will bring! Thank you!
The Swap will begin with Check-in at 10 AM in the breezeway where you will drop off
your packaged seeds, preferably in envelopes. One other option is to bring your cleaned seeds in a jar with a
spoon and label the jar as described below and in the sign up. A short educational program will be provided at 10:30 while we organize the seeds you bring.
Once your seeds are checked in, you can mingle in the outdoor room at Headwaters until the program begins. We will provide bags for the seeds you take home, as well as
stickers and markers to decorate your bag. Also while you’re mingling, place a Post-It
note on the white board with the seeds you brought. That way, everyone will know
what’s available before we head to the Pavilion.
Our speaker again this year is Minnette Marr, former high school environmental science teacher and conservation botanist for Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Minnette has a wealth of knowledge about seeds, so be sure your seeds are all checked in
before her program begins at 10:30.
After the program, everyone will proceed to the Headwaters Pavilion to “swap seeds”
and compare native plant experiences! Seeds will be arranged by type on the tables. If you don’t have seeds to contribute, you will still be allowed to choose a few.
So how do you get ready? Start harvesting seeds—native Texas plants only--from your own yard or in the wild, as long as you have legal access to the site and can accurately
identify the seeds. Label as directed above or on sign up.
If you need information on how to properly collect and clean seeds, these tips gathered
from Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center are excellent, click here: https://www.wildflower.org/learn/collect-store-seeds .
