About this Event
INDUSTRIES IN FOCUS: VISUAL ARTS + TEXTILE DESIGN + PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY + CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURSHIP + LIFESTYLE BRANDING
Join us for one of the most intimate and special field trips we've ever put together. We're heading to the home studio of Mikey McKinney, the visionary behind , a one-of-a-kind Seattle design house that defies category. Pillows, textiles, fashion, soft sculpture, art... it's all in scope. Campy, dreamy, spiritual, and otherworldly, and so is this event. This one is going to feel less like a field trip and more like a housewarming party with your most creative friends. You're gonna love it.
Who is Mikey McKinney? Mikey is a Seattle-based artist whose work is rooted in social and political dissidence through the avant-garde and the absurd. A graduate of the Art Institute of New York, he's toured the country with musical projects, created art for social justice organizations, and built Haus of Hands into a beloved soft sculpture and textile practice, entirely by hand, with a Singer sewing machine, using vintage estate sale finds, MOOD fashion fabric, and yes, grandma fabric from Joann. His work has been featured in The Seattle Times, The Stranger, KEXP, and Dwell Magazine. He is currently learning to play the flute.
Oh, and his team consists of one designer and one perfect grey cat.
What are we gonna do? Mikey will open his doors and walk us through his creative world, how he sources fabric, constructs his pieces, and stages his apartment for product photography. You'll see what it actually looks like to live and work as a full-time artist in Seattle. Drinks and light bites will be on hand as you explore, lounge, and soak it all in.
Then we take it to the streets. We'll walk a few blocks together to the Pioneer Square Art Walk, where Mikey will lead us through some of his favorite galleries and businesses, or we'll discover new ones together. Whether this is your first art walk or your fiftieth, experiencing it alongside a working artist and a group of like-minded creatives hits completely different.
This is your chance to see what's possible when you build a life around your craft, right here in the 206.
