Generative AI is rapidly becoming part of how young people learn, create, communicate, and find information. This presentation gives parents, caregivers, and other trusted adults a practical, nontechnical framework for helping kids use these tools safely and responsibly. Topics include understanding what generative AI can and cannot do, recognizing inaccurate or manipulated content, protecting personal information, setting age-appropriate expectations, and addressing questions of academic integrity and responsible creation. Rather than relying solely on restrictions, attendees will learn how ongoing conversations, shared exploration, and clear family guardrails can help young people become thoughtful and resilient users of AI.Audience takeaway: Adults do not need to become AI experts. They need enough understanding, curiosity, and confidence to guide the young people in their lives.
