The Detroit Lakes School Board has been in state and national news during recent months over policy debates about removing rainbow flags and Pride symbols from classrooms and district buildings. School board elections in November give local citizens a chance to learn more about what's at stake, get good information about who is on the ballot, and choose three candidates who will sit on the school board in the coming years. Voter choices can impact future policies around support for LGBTQIA2S+ people, funding for special needs, and other diversity-inclusive policies.Join Prism Organizing Network, the League of Women Voters - Detroit Lakes Area, and other local partners to learn how school boards affect everyday life, to share your experience, and to consider how we might support the safety, dignity and freedom of DL area students, staff, and community. Please RSVP using the link in "Tickets" so we can tell our hosts how many people to expect, and how we can share resources with you afterwards.
Note that this is a non-partisan voter education event; we will not be announcing endorsements or support for particular candidates. Our goal is to help community members get good information so that you can vote your values this fall. Please be in touch if you have accessibility questions or needs. See you on October 27th!
