Try your hand at the creative skills behind the movies — from special effects makeup and costume to sword-making, slime and more!
About this Event

With fantastical creatures, elven jewels, warriors’ armour, vampire portraits and more, Scene Stealers shines the spotlight on the artists behind Aotearoa New Zealand’s film industry. Many of these incredible craftspeople who make movie magic will be at The Dowse to celebrate the opening of this exciting exhibition. There will be opportunities for you to hear from them, see them in action…and even get in on the action yourself.

Scars and Scrapes with Wētā Workshop. Scare your friends with the addition of a special effects scar applied by the team from Wētā Workshop.

Barbarian Productions Dress Up Jam. Get into character with Barbarian Productions and their seemingly bottomless wardrobe department of costumes for you to try on and style. Dress up, act up and wig out!

Fighting and Falling. Stunt Master Allan Henry will teach the tricks of the trade and have you looking like you’re rumbling with the heavyweights without ever landing a punch.

These activities are part of a day of programmes celebrating the opening of Scene Stealers. This also includes industry experts in panel talks:
10.30-11.30am Scene Stealers In Discussion: Creative Costuming
12-1pm Scene Stealers In Discussion: Behind the Lens
