The Rise of Francis Marion: from Continental Office to Legendary Swamp FoxAndrew Waters is a writer, editor, and conservationist residing in Pittsboro, North Carolina. He is the author of Backcountry War: The Rise of Francis Marion, Banastre Tarleton, and Thomas Sumter (Westholme Publishing, 2024), named a finalist for the 2025 American Battlefield Trust's Prize for History. He is also the author of To the End of the World: Nathanael Greene, Charles Cornwallis, and the Race to the Dan (Westholme Publishing, 2020), runner-up for the 2021 Frances Tavern Museum Book Award, and The Quaker and the Gamecock: Nathanael Greene, Thomas Sumter, and the Revolutionary War for the Soul of the South (Casemate Publishers, 2019). Waters is also a well-known speaker and presenter on the American Revolution in the South. He is a three-time guest on "Walter Edgar's Journal" and has presented at the American Battlefield Trusts' Book Fest, the North Carolina Museum of History, and the Cowpens National Battlefield Anniversary Celebration, among many other events.

In this series, leading historians and authors as they discuss how South Carolina citizens, including historically enslaved and other marginalized groups, negotiated and interpreted America's struggle for independence.
