Join us for an evening all about native flowers, seed saving and getting ready for next year’s garden!
Mélanie Ouellette, Chair and Founder of the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library, will introduce us to the Seed Library, how it works, and how its community-based approach to collecting and sharing native flower seeds for free is helping more people grow native plants across Ottawa.
Then it’s time to talk seeds! Mélanie will walk us through harvesting, cleaning, storing and saving native plant seeds, with practical tips you can use at home.
We’ll also learn about winter sowing, a simple way to start native plants outdoors using the natural conditions of an Ottawa winter. Learn how to sow seeds this fall and winter so they’ll be ready to get growing when spring arrives, with a closer look at some of the native seeds you can try yourself.
Whether you already have a native plant garden or are just getting started, come learn how saving and sharing seeds can help you grow more native plants while supporting wild birds, pollinators, and other local wildlife.
