The lecture series Samhengi welcomes Þorbjörg Daphne Hall, Professor at the Iceland University of the Arts' Music Department, on Friday, November 27th, with the lecture Higher Music Education and Socially Engaged Practice.
The lecture explores how participatory music projects can expand students' understanding of musicianship beyond performance excellence to include collaboration, facilitation, and social responsibility. Drawing on research from Korda Samfónía and the Building Bridges project, the lecture examines how socially engaged music-making can shape students' identities, agency, and professional trajectories. It highlights the unique learning opportunities that emerge when students work alongside people with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and forms of expertise.
The event takes place in Dynjandi, the Music Department's hall, and is open to all.
