About this Event
Samba Reggae Percussion Course for Beginners · 5 classes, November 7 to December 12, 2026 (no class on December 5)
Learn Brazil's most contagious rhythm from zero, on a real drum, with a band around you. No experience needed. All instruments provided.
WHY A COURSE, NOT A POP-UP
Our two-hour pop-ups give you a taste. This course gives you the real thing. Over five Saturday afternoons you learn the instruments, your own part, the breaks, and how to play it all together. By the last class the whole room is playing samba reggae as one band.
WHAT YOU GET
- 5 classes of 2 hours: November 7, 14, 21, 28 and December 12
- A drum in your hands every class (fundo, dobra, repique, caixa or timbau), all provided
- Pato Irie as your teacher: director of TDot Batu, from Salvador, Bahia, where samba reggae was born
- A small group, so everyone gets real attention

WHO IT'S FOR
Complete beginners. Most of the room will be picking up a drum for the first time, and the course is built for that. If you came to one of our pop-ups and wanted more, this is the next step.
All ages are welcome. Under 18s just need a parent or guardian who stays for the class.
WHAT TO BRING
- A water bottle
- Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes
- Ear protection if you like (it gets loud, in the best way)
- Nothing else. All drums and sticks are provided.
FROM OUR STUDENTS
"Always felt the call of the drums, and in TDot I found the perfect spot to answer it. In just a few weeks I went from zero to feeling the rhythm, learning the roots, and even playing in front of people." Andres, percussion workshop
Samba reggae was born in the streets of Salvador, Bahia. It is the rhythm Olodum and Ilê Aiyê carried from the neighbourhood blocos to the world stage: loud, joyful, and built to be played by a room full of people at once. Come play it with us.
