SAFE 18+ is a specialised social group run by SAFE Essex specifically for young autistic adults (aged 18 and over) who do not have a co-occurring learning disability.
Based in Southend, the group addresses a major challenge faced by neurodivergent young adults: finding a relaxed, mature social life without the sensory overload or social pressures of standard adult venues.
What to Expect from the SAFE 18+ Group
Exclusive-Use Venue: The group meets during the evenings in a local café that is entirely reserved for them. This creates a quiet, predictable, and controlled sensory environment.
Low-Pressure Socialising: There is no forced structure or corporate icebreakers. Members can choose to sit and chat, play card or board games, or simply unwind with a drink in a space where they don't have to mask their autism.
A Non-Judgmental Space: It offers a community of peers who understand the unique challenges of transitioning into adulthood, independent living, or employment while being on the spectrum.
Please Note: Because this is an official service run by SAFE Essex, individuals must register and after a trial session will be asked to become members of the charity to attend.
