About this Event
Mitch Barrett and Carla Gover of Zoe Speaks bring "Sacred Yard" to the stage — a song, and a philosophy, built on making room for everyone at the table. Rooted in three decades of Eastern Kentucky music-making, Mitch and Carla draw on the best of the hymns, harmonies, and mountain traditions they grew up with, while aiming to shape a more just and inclusive Kentucky. They describe themselves as spiritual rather than religious, and "Sacred Yard" reflects that: a vision of the sacred that isn't bound to any one faith, but open to all of them — and to none. Through original songs and stories from Appalachian coal and tobacco country, they offer a fuller, more honest picture of a region too often reduced to stereotype, one where welcome, not judgment, is the real inheritance worth keeping.
