SECRET PLANET RICHMOND!FRIDAY OCTOBER 9!
Washington, DC ska-jazz veterans EASTERN STANDARD TIME come to Richmond for a night of Jamaican ska, rocksteady, reggae, soul and jazz at Get Tight Lounge!
EST have been at it for decades, touring internationally and sharing the stage with some of the originators of Jamaican music. They’ve served as a backing band for legends including Derrick Morgan, Stranger Cole, Roy “Mr. Symarip” Ellis, Monty Neysmith and Sister Nancy, among many others. In 2017, they backed Derrick Morgan for the live recording celebrating his 60th anniversary as a performer at the Supernova International Ska Festival.
Think vintage Jamaican ska + hot jazz + rocksteady + soul + boogaloo + dub — played by musicians who know this music inside and out.
Plus Richmond’s steelboy!
And DJ RATTAN will be behind the decks spinning ALL VINYL throughout the night! DJ Rattan, aka Rei Alvarez, is the longtime frontman of Richmond’s legendary Bio Ritmo and Miramar, and host of the recurring Salsasoul all-vinyl DJ sessions at Get Tight Lounge.
