On August 26, 2026, Nepal was struck by a catastrophic disaster following a massive rock-and-ice avalanche near the Nepal–China border, triggering devastating floods and debris flows across Himalayan valleys.
Homes, roads, bridges, vehicles, and critical infrastructure were swept away, leaving communities facing tremendous loss. According to Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), **more than 1,400 people have lost their lives, over 6,000 remain missing, and more than 13,700 people have been rescued.** Search and recovery efforts continue.
