Odeon Richmond & Surrounded by SoundPresent
ROXY MUSIC
7 pm Friday 27th November.
Roxy Music’s self-titled debut album and second album ‘For Your Pleasure’ are being presented in Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround sound on our dedicated sound system.
Roxy Music released their debut album in 1972 produced by King Crimson lyricist Peter Sinfield and receiving good reviews and making the UK Top 10. With no single released from the album it was decided to go back into the studio to record a single to help boost sales. That single was the Top 5 hit ‘Virginia Plain’, later added to international releases of the ‘Roxy Music’ album.
In 2018 a Super Deluxe Edition of the album was released with unheard material, and a 5.1 surround sound mix by Steven Wilson which we are featuring tonight.
For Your Pleasure the second Roxy Music album was released in 1973 after the non-album track ‘Pyjamarama’ reached the UK Top 10 singles chart. No singles were released from the album in the UK but ‘Do the Strand’ was released in most other countries to promote the album.
‘For Your Pleasure’ is considered by many Roxy Music fans as their best album and, along with the debut ‘Roxy Music’ are set apart from the rest of their catalogue due to the contribution of founding member Brian Eno who left the band soon after the album’s release.
When Steven Wilson remixed the first Roxy Music album, he said in interviews that he had also done a 5.1 surround mix of ‘For Your Pleasure’ to be released as a Super Deluxe Edition, in the near future. Later this story changed to “I received the multi-tracks but didn’t complete a mix.”
This month, after an 8 year wait, we finally have the ‘For Your Please’ Deluxe Box Set which not only contains a brand-new Dolby Atmos mix by producer Bob Clearmountain but the original unreleased 5.1 surround mix done by Steven Wilson.
We will be featuring both Surround mixes of this album along with some rare video footage of Roxy Music with Brian Eno performing tracks from both these albums.
Doors open at 7 pm and listening starts at 7.30 pm.
Tickets $12 online or on the door.
