Fall in love with live music this February with an afternoon of glorious string playing, heartfelt melodies and Romantic drama, performed by five of the “polished and passionate” (The Arts Desk) musicians of Music in the Round’s Ensemble 360.
Although Valentine’s Day has passed, there’s no reason to stop celebrating love. Romantic Strings is the perfect way to keep the Valentine’s spirit alive — whether you’re sharing the afternoon with someone special, enjoying a musical date with a friend, celebrating friendship, or simply treating yourself to something beautiful.
The programme begins with Rossini’s charming Duet for Cello and Double Bass, an elegant and playful conversation between two wonderfully rich instruments. From there, Beethoven’s String Quartet in C minor, Op. 18 No. 4 brings passion, intensity and emotional depth, revealing the composer at his most dramatic and expressive.
The afternoon culminates in Dvořák’s glorious String Quintet No. 2 in G, a work overflowing with warmth, sweeping melodies and infectious energy. From intimate moments of tenderness to exhilarating passages of exuberant music-making, it is a fitting finale to an afternoon devoted to the many faces of love.
Together, these three masterpieces create a programme that is romantic in every sense — tender, passionate, joyful and full of heart. It’s an invitation to slow down, switch off and enjoy the sheer pleasure of beautiful music performed live.
