Workshop
Many popular romance novels (Just For the Summer, Before I Let Go, How to End a Love Story, This Summer Will Be Different) focus not just on the falling in love part, but also on the emotional growth it takes be ready to live the love story of your dreams. In this rom-traum-com workshop, U of T creative writing teacher Leanne Toshiko Simpson will help you work on everything from breakups to meet-cutes to meant-to-be's. By building strong character development, you'll plant the seeds for a love story you can grow far beyond the workshop itself.
Instructor
Leanne Toshiko Simpson teaches creative writing and literature at the University of Toronto. Her debut novel, Never Been Better is a mental health twist on the classic rom-com My Best Friend's Wedding, and was named one of CBC's Best Books of 2024, was featured on Good Morning America, Elle Canada, Toronto Star, and The Seattle Times. Much of her recent writing is inspired by her truly bizarre range of past hobbies, from contact football to screaming in a metal band to being a failed math Olympian. True to brand, she loves joyful and messy love stories in equal parts.
