As part of London Against Ageism, Age UK London's campaign to challenge ageism and celebrate ageing in all its diversity we are pleased to invite you to this exclusive fundraising event.
On the afternoon of 18 November, we'll be welcoming the one and only Toyah Willcox to Cecil Sharp House in Camden for an intimate fireside chat, launching our new Rock Against Ageism series. Doors open from 2.30pm with Toyah taking to the stage at 3.15pm. (Please note seating is not allocated).
Toyah has never been one to follow the crowd. From breaking through as a trailblazing punk and new wave icon in the late 1970s and 1980s to becoming a successful actress, broadcaster and author, she has spent decades carving out a unique place in British culture. With a career spanning more than 50 years, she continues to reinvent herself and inspire audiences of all ages.
Now aged 68, Toyah remains as energetic, creative and forward-looking as ever. During this exclusive conversation, she'll look back on the highs, challenges and surprises of her remarkable career, sharing stories from life in music, television and theatre. We'll also hear what motivates her today, what she's looking forward to next, and why she believes growing older should be celebrated, not feared.
As part of the discussion, we'll explore whether ageism has affected her experiences in the entertainment industry and how attitudes towards ageing, especially for women, have changed over the years. It's sure to be an honest, fascinating and thought-provoking conversation.
Above all, this will be a chance to spend an afternoon in the company of a true original: hearing first-hand about a life lived boldly, creatively and unapologetically.
Age UK London launched our London Against Ageism campaign this year following the release of research amongst older Londoners on their experiences of ageism in London. The research showed that 51% of Londoners had experienced ageism in their daily lives with 13% stating it happens often or always!
