Bio: Robert Lester is a professional expedition athlete, environmental steward, filmmaker, and writer whose work explores the intersection of adventure, conservation, and the protection of wild places. He is known for his first film, the award-winning documentary The Columbia River Canoe Project, chronicles his 52-day, 1,300-mile human-powered canoe expedition down the Clark Fork of the Columbia River from Butte, Montana to the Pacific Ocean. His work combines firsthand expedition experience with environmental storytelling, using exploration, writing, photography, and film to bring attention to landscapes and conservation issues that are often difficult to experience firsthand.
Synopsis:
Roadless follows three adventurers as they set out on foot in the Alaskan wilderness. Their goal: to follow the 211-mile length of the proposed Ambler Mining Road. Crossing vast tundra, wild rivers, and pristine forests, the team brings audiences directly into one of the most remote and ecologically intact landscapes in North America.
160 miles north of the Arctic Circle; as the miles accumulate, so do the challenges—injuries, exhaustion, hunger, relentless mosquitoes, and the harsh reality of traveling challenging terrain without roads or trails. But the team also reveals a landscape few people will ever experience firsthand. Encounters with wildlife, experiencing 24-hour sunlight, and the vast Arctic ecosystem offer a glimpse into a remarkable environment that has remained untouched by human development.
Roadless takes viewers on an adventure of endurance, and natural beauty while exploring what could be lost if the Ambler Road is built.
