Rip It Up: 'Kneecap' (18)

A wildly charismatic and chaotic Belfast trio set out to become Ireland’s first rap group singing in Gaelic. This soon becomes a defining feature as the three musicians soar as figureheads of reviving their mother tongue and bringing the Irish language to the forefront.

‘Kneecap’ offers an unapologetically seismic portrayal of the not so far from true story of the internationally acclaimed rap group, Kneecap. Offering a confrontational and never-wavering central message of pride in your roots and rejection of colonialist ideology, this film brings a much-needed injection of boundary-pushing music and style to British film.

This screening is part of Rip It Up, a UK-wide season celebrating British youth culture on screen, made possible thanks to National Lottery Good Cause funding through the BFI Film Audience Network. Our screening of ‘Kneecap’ will be accompanied by a DJ workshop - stay tuned for times of the workshop!
