About this Event

At the time of the revolutionary war, little was known about pathological basis of disease. Military medicine was based on treatment of an imbalance of 4 humors with therapy of bleeding, purging and irritants. Disease was by far more deadly than combat injuries. Hospitals were primitive and antisepsis was not known. Combat wounds were treated by amputations, stanching of hemorrhage, and removal of projectiles, all without anesthesia. We will review these treatments and how they were related to what was known about medicine at the time.Dr. Gary Grover returns to the Hunterdon 300th with new research on this timely and compelling topic.
