About this Event

What if the traditional model of retirement is exactly wrong for people who have spent their lives running toward what everyone else runs from?

After decades of high-stakes decisions, intense relationships, constant challenge, and being needed by others, law enforcement leaders are often encouraged to retire into a life built around relaxation, hobbies, and “finally slowing down.” For many protectors and defenders, that can be a surprisingly dangerous prescription. Dr. Shauna Springer reveals what can happen when the uniform comes off: the sudden loss of tribe, structure, stimulation, identity, and purpose—combined with years of physical and psychological “deferred maintenance” that may surface only when life finally gets quiet.

Drawing from her work with military and law enforcement leaders, Springer introduces the CANDID framework, a practical roadmap for navigating six critical pressure points of retirement: Connection, Acceptance, New Challenges, Daily Structure, Identity-Based Choices, and Deferred Maintenance. The goal isn’t to get better at doing nothing. It’s to understand what decades of service have built into you—and design a life that doesn’t require you to give up the very things that made you thrive.
