An Evening with Remelluri

We’ll be joined by Luis Dominguez from Remelluri, who is making the trip over from Rioja to guide us through seven wines from this remarkable estate.
Remelluri is one of those producers that offers a rather different perspective on Rioja. Its history stretches back to the 14th century, when monks established vineyards on the estate - although there is evidence of winemaking here from considerably earlier.
The modern chapter began in 1967, when Jaime Rodríguez purchased the property. Today, Remelluri is run by his children, Telmo and Amaia Rodríguez, who have spent the past decade and a half returning the estate to its roots: putting individual vineyards, villages and terroir firmly ahead of winemaking intervention.
When they took over in 2010, production was reduced by around a third so that Remelluri itself would be made solely from grapes grown on the estate. Fruit from the surrounding villages was separated out to create Las Lindes de Remelluri - a fascinating project exploring the distinctive character of Rioja's individual villages and growers.
The estate has long avoided chemical treatments and became fully certified organic in 2010. In the cellar, the approach is similarly restrained: native yeasts, individual plots vinified separately, very little new oak and minimal fining and filtration. The intention is not to impose a house style, but to allow the vineyards to do the talking.
We’ll taste seven wines with Luis, giving us a chance to explore Remelluri in some depth and hear directly about the vineyards, philosophy and people behind the bottles.

As you can see from the retail price of these wines, the ticket price is a little outragous, and a fantastic opportunity to taste some fantastic wines from an iconic Rioja producer. As a deal on the night, if you buy 3 bottles or more, you will get £10 back from the ticket price.
And, because seven glasses of Rioja are considerably better with something to eat, Fin & Grape will be putting on a selection of nibbles to accompany the tasting, all included in the ticket price.
