Did this young Dutch artist encounter some of the Mayflower Pilgrims? Rembrandt van Rijn was born and lived in Leiden from 1606 to 1631, overlapping with the presence of members of the exiled English Separatist congregation who settled in the city from 1608 until departing for America in 1620. This tantalizing juxtaposition - Rembrandt as a boy walking the same streets as William Brewster, William Bradford, Edward Winslow, Isaac Allerton, and other early Plymouth colonists - invites a deeper look at the life of one of the world's greatest visual artists in an upcoming lecture by art educator Jane E Choy-Thurlow. Don't miss her talk "Rembrandt: Bohemian or Businessman, Romantic or Rebel?" at Pilgrim Hall Museum, Sunday, October 25th at 2 pm.
