About this Event
The European Commission has recently adopted a strategy aimed at simplifying regulation through initiatives such as the Omnibus I–X packages and the 28th Regime. Underlying these efforts — and reflected in the Letta and Draghi reports — is the concern that an increasingly dense “regulatory thicket” may be weighing on European competitiveness. Yet the evidence regarding both the extent and the effects of such a regulatory burden remains limited and, at times, mixed.
This workshop will explore the relationship between regulation and competitiveness. Is Europe currently facing excessive intervention, insufficient enforcement, or simply an inefficient allocation of regulatory effort? What are the guiding principles of effective regulatory design? And to what extent should those principles vary across sectors and institutional contexts? These are some of the questions we intend to address.
Confirmed keynote speakers include (Toulouse School of Economics) and (Utrecht University). In addition to these, we expect to have four shorter academic presentations, covering issues from the economics and law perspectives; and a panel discussion focused on policy issues.
The workshop will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 14-18h, at the Carcavelos Campus of Nova School of Business and Economics, room B009.
Full agenda forthcoming.
