About this Event
In the immediate aftermath of the 2026 midterms, regardless of outcomes, the burning question for us all will be what comes next?
Advocates, organizers, and thought leaders across the pro-democracy space are at a crossroads. We must immediately stop the consolidation of authoritarian power while also building a proactive agenda that will endure. Balancing the needs of the short term, building investment and infrastructure for the long term, and ensuring that progress cannot easily be reversed.
Since our nation’s founding, we’ve seen a cycle on repeat: Progress toward a multiracial democracy is met with fierce backlash. To build a more just and equitable future, we need to break that cycle and make progress that is harder to reverse. We need a Third Reconstruction done right—new norms, new institutions, and new forms of power. Dēmos has some ideas about how we make that happen. So do our partners.
Join us on Wednesday, December 2 at 6:00pm ET at Amalgamated Bank for a conversation about the challenges facing us today, the lessons we must carry forward, and what we collectively can do now to build lasting people power.
Speakers include:
- Cliff Albright, Co-Founder and Executive Director, Black Voters Matter
- Taifa Smith Butler, President of Dēmos
- Juanita Lewis, Executive Director of Community Voices Heard
- Sanjiv Rao, Vice President, Democracy Fund
The conversation will be moderated by Alencia Johnson, founder of 1063 West Broad and author of Flip The Tables, The Everyday Disruptors Guide
At a time when costs are at all-time high, wages are stagnating, and the voices of everyday people are being drowned out, we must dream boldly, plan wisely, and take hold of our future.
We hope you join us for an illuminating, solutions-focused conversation.
