Join us for an upcoming birding trip as we return to the Red Bluff Recreation Area, featuring rich riparian, open grassland, and oak woodland habitats. We are excited to have Dr. David Danhke as our Guest Field Trip Leader. David is a local physician, an experienced birder, and a long-time guide for the first Saturday Walks at the Red Bluff Recreation Area. He also participates in the Red Bluff CBC, leads tours for the Snow Goose Festival, and frequently travels for birding.
Trip Overview:
- Location: Red Bluff Recreation Area (1000 Sale Ln, Red Bluff, CA96080)
- Meeting Point: South end of Sale Lane, next to the Sacramento River Discovery Center, at the parking lot just before the road turns left toward the campground. A drop pin will also be shared in the upcoming SBS Birding Bulletin.
- Habitat & Wildlife: This 488-acre area along the Sacramento River is a top eBird Hotspot in Tehama County. Expect to see wintering sparrows, warblers, wrens, woodpeckers, winter flycatchers, wading birds and hopefully the return of wintering river ducks.
- Trail Conditions: Most trails are level and paved for easy accessibility. However, the section along the river is uneven with no established paths.
- What to Bring: Comfortable footwear, water, snacks, and insect repellent.
We hope you can join us for this journey to explore one of Tehama County's best natural spaces.
