- YOU MUST HAVE A VALID ALS CERTIFICATE OR ONE THAT WILL NOT HAVE BEEN EXPIRED FOR MORE THAN ONE YEAR AT THE TIME OF THE RECERTIFICATION COURSE.
- BE INVOLVED IN RESUSCITATION EVENTS IN YOUR CURRENT JOBE ROLE. We recommend this course for staff who practice the skills in their current job role (e.g. Medical /Anaesthetic Reg, CCOT, ITU/HDU, ED Band 6 and above).

Learning Outcomes
The ALS course, will help build the confidence needed to take the lead in an emergency through the development of knowledge and skills in:
- Recognising and managing the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach;
- Delivering standardised CPR in adults;
- Managing a cardiac arrest by working with a multidisciplinary team in an emergency situation;
- Becoming an effective and confident team member and leader by utilising non-technical skills.
Who is this course suitable for?
The e-ALS course is designed for healthcare professionals who need skills in advanced life support as part of their clinical duties, as well as those who teach these skills on a regular basis. This includes doctors, paramedics and nurses working in acute care areas such as ED, CCU, ICU, HDU, operating theatres, acute medical admissions units or on resuscitation/ medical emergency/ Critical Care Outreach teams.
All applicants must hold a professional healthcare qualification or be in training for a professional healthcare qualification.
Pre-Course Preparation
Four weeks prior to the course date: Candidates will receive the ALS course manual + will be registered on the Resuscitation Council Learning Management System (LMS), where the pre-course course learning modules as well as the mandatory pre-course multiple choice question (MCQ) paper can be accessed. Preparation for the face-to-face session is mandatory and includes the following:
- Thoroughly reading the course manual
- Completing the online pre-course multiple-choice questionnaire (MCQ) - pass mark must be achieved
Important: Completion of the pre-course MCQ is compulsory. The mark does not contribute to the final course result but a pass grade of 80% must be achieved prior to course attendance. Failure to complete it will result in removal from the course, and no refund will be issued.
Course Structure
Programme: Attending the face to face day you will develop your knowledge, practical and non-technical skills in skills stations, workshops and through participate in Cardiac Arrest Simulations (CASTeach)
Assessment and Certification
Assessment: You will be continuously assessed based on your performance in clinical simulations and expected to show competency in the core teachings of the course, including airway management, high quality CPR and defibrillation, and cardiac arrest management. At the end of the course, your practice knowledge and skills will be formally tested in a cardiac arrest simulation (CASTest).
Certification: Candidates who successfully complete the course will be awarded with a Resuscitation Council UK ALS provider certificate, which is valid for four years and recognised in healthcare settings in the UK, Europe and Australia.
ALS Course Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations must be made at least 30 days prior to the course start date to be eligible for a refund or transfer. If you have already received your manual for the course, this fee will be deducted from the refund.
- Cancellations made within 30 days of the course date are not eligible for a refund or transfer, except in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the course administrator.
- Transfers to a future course may be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be subject to a transfer fee.
- Non-attendance without prior notice will result in forfeiture of the course fee.
- Should the course be cancelled by the centre, either a refund or alternative date will be provided.
- This policy is applicable to both internal and external candidates of Chelsea and Westminster NHS Trust
**IMPORTANT: RCUK Guidelines 2025 Updates (For courses taking place from 1 January 2026)**
- RCUK regulations now stipulate that the pre-course MCQ is mandatory.
- A pass grade (80%) must be achieved prior to course attendance. Multiple attempts are permitted until a pass mark is reached.
- Candidates who do not complete the pre-course MCQ prior to commencement of the course will not be permitted to attend the face-to-face course.
- No refunds will be issued back to candidates for non-compliance.
- The post-course MCQ will no longer be required on the day of the course.
