Raw Earth

Presented at The Irish Museum of Modern Art as part of Science Week 2026, Raw Earth offers a space to creatively engage with the materials and natural resources that underpin society.

The evening will showcase outcomes from the iCRAG Raw Materials Residency 2026, a collaboration engaging artists Kathryn Maguire and Elaine Harrington with researchers at iCRAG Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences. Through this residency, artistic practice and scientific inquiry converge to tell the “stories” of raw materials, from their geological formation to extraction, use, and reuse, centring on creative exploration. Fundamental to the stories of these raw materials is the role of water. In line with the Science Week 2026 theme, Raw Earth reminds us that our Earth is a system, where water and rock are inseparable from the things we ultimately use in everyday life.

At this unique event, audience members can expect to engage with novel artworks, witness immersive artist and scientist talks and a lively panel discussion hosted by acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist and researcher of critical materials in digital culture, Prof. Teresa Dillion.
There will also be a closing reception around the artworks, with refreshments.
