About this Event
R&D is a movement lab that draws on yoga, fitness, and dance to reconnect you with your inner GPS. It's 90 minutes of guided, improvised movement to great music. No prior experience needed, no wrong way to move.
Most of us would love to move freely. Then the music starts, it's broad daylight, nobody's drinking, and every part of us wants to run for the doors. This is normal, even for people who've danced for twenty years.
In R&D, we practice interval training for body and mind. Erin eases you out of your comfort zone, then brings you back to a safe home best, where you rest and repeat. Each round, staying in the room gets less awkward, easier, and more fun. And that's how we learn to stay! Not just on a daytime dance floor, but in the moments of our life we avoid or run from.
This is for you if
- you don't consider yourself a dancer
- you've been in your head all week
- choreography stresses you out
- you're curious, and a little bit scared
- you used to dance and miss it
- you want a fun weekend plan with good people that isn't brunch, a bar or a solo activity
This is part 4 of a 5-part pilot series. Here's what people told us after the first labs:
"It's not as hard as I had imagined."
"Definitely outside of my comfort zone, but it was fun."
"I kind of like the feeling of coming out of my shell."
90% of people left in a better mood (we measured it).
So what kind of "movement" is this?
Think somewhere between a yoga class and a dance floor: sober, barefoot, on a Sunday morning, in daylight, lightly guided.
Most dance asks you to follow the steps, or comes with pressure looking good doing it. We hold space for the opposite: you move how you feel, and the point is how it feels, not how it looks.
How the morning goes
10:00 · Ease in. Breath, a good stretch, then simple prompts from Erin to the music. Short rounds: ease out, come back, rest.
10:45 · Make it yours. Longer rounds, less instruction. More music, more space, and your own way of moving, on your own and with others.
11:30 · Land. A few quick questions about how it felt. Your answers shape what comes next.
12:00 · Lunch, if you want. Stick around with people who were strangers two hours ago, or ease back into your Sunday, lighter than you came in.
Your guide: Erin Rose Ward
Erin has spent over a decade teaching movement, dance, yoga, meditation and breathwork in New York and LA. She guides the 360 Emergence, has taught The Class by Taryn Toomey, leads retreats internationally, and presents at Kripalu. Her whole approach is about making space for people to come just as they are.
Wear comfortable clothes you can move in and bring water. We move barefoot, in socks, or in clean indoor shoes. We have floor, seated and standing options throughout.
