About this Event
Held at 7 Alfred Place, Melbourne, the 2026 Surgeons’ Awards Dinner will bring together Fellows, Trainees, researchers and colleagues for an evening of recognition, connection and celebration.
Guests will enjoy a three-course dinner and beverages while we recognise outstanding surgical research and announce the recipients of the 2026 Victorian Research Awards.
A highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the GJ Royal Lecture and Medal to Dr Iain Skinner FRACS.
GJ Royal Lecture and Medal
In 2026, the Victorian State Committee is pleased to recognise Dr Iain Skinner FRACS as the recipient of the GJ Royal Award. Dr Skinner will deliver the GJ Royal Lecture and be presented with the GJ Royal Medal during the evening.
The GJ Royal Award and Lecture honours the memory of Geoffrey James Royal (1939–1991) and recognises his contribution to the College and the Victorian surgical community.
Dr Royal served on the Victorian State Committee for eight years, including as Chair from 1988 to 1990, and was awarded the RACS Medal in 1990 in recognition of his contribution to the College.
Established in 1991, the GJ Royal Award is conferred upon individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievement and contribution to surgery and leadership.
Celebrating Victorian surgical research
The dinner will also celebrate the finalists and winners of the Victorian Research Papers Day following the research presentations held earlier that afternoon.
The Victorian Research Awards recognise excellence in surgical research and provide an important opportunity to showcase and celebrate the work of Victoria’s emerging surgeons and researchers.
Tickets include a three-course dinner and beverages.
