What makes it queer? Well we wanted to make a space to practice and learn improv with goal in mind to do queer oriented scenes. So much of the improv world is constructed around straight norms, and it is refreshing to play in a different direction. This class also centers exercises and group play over stage time. Stage time is nice but not everyone wants to get up and embarrass themselves in front of an audience or spend half the class sitting watching others. By focusing on exercises and group games, we can keep everyone engaged and learning.
Do you have to identify as queer to take this class? That's not the point, the point is to do queer improv. While it may make it easier to be queer, or you may get more out of it if you identify as some kind of queer, this class is about queer improv. We promise not to check your queer card at the door.
Seeking open minded people who want to play and make mistakes while staying respectful to each other.
Kay Komizara has been improvsing for the good part of 20 years, you can see some her portfolio by checking out kaykomizara.com
