About this Event
Allied Productions will be unearthing select boxes from the archive that reveal a history placing artists as organizers and advocates in efforts for public health and community welfare. Through records and programs tracking legal disputes involving historic NYC squats and visual documentation of queer performances and DIY art shows amidst the AIDs crisis, Allied Productions, Inc. Records and Media Collections holds a blueprint for artists challenging the status quo and working against governmental neglect. Founders Jack Waters and Peter Cramer will be discussing their work stewarding community spaces such as ABC No Rio, CHARAS, and Le Petit Versailles as well as their ongoing endeavors in collecting queer ephemera and producing artwork centering marginalized voices. They will be joined by Rose Knopper and Grace Muller, both artists who have spearheaded Allied’s recent archival project initiated in 2024 as they discuss what lessons can be drawn from revisiting vulnerable histories and creating systems for a living archive. Some featured documents were processed with help of archivists at the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space.
