Viac než príbeh alkoholu
Liehovarníctvo patrí k Trenčínu už takmer 150 rokov. Old Herold nadväzuje na liehovar založený v roku 1886. Sídli v areáli bývalej droždiarne z 30. rokov 20. storočia, ktorý dnes patrí medzi technické pamiatky mesta. Likérok však bolo v Trenčíne a regióne viac a každá z nich hovorí niečo o tom, ako sa tu žilo a pracovalo.
Príbehy miestnych liehovarov ukazujú, ako sa Trenčín menil. Hovoria o priemysle a podnikaní, o striedaní politických režimov, o dizajne a reklame, o architektúre aj o tom, ako sa menil náš vzťah k alkoholu. Nechceme len nostalgicky spomínať na staré fabriky a značky. Chceme cez lokálne príbehy rozprávať veľké dejiny 20. storočia.

Výstava Trenčianske likérky od roku 1886 po súčasnosť: výber z archívnych materiálov spoločnosti Old Herold.
Prednáška o dizajne liehovín: ako sa menili fľaše a etikety a ako sa alkohol propagoval v jednotlivých obdobiach.
Diskusia o liehovarníctve v Trenčíne a regióne: o ľuďoch a podnikoch, ktoré toto odvetvie formovali.
Koncert: účinkujúcich oznámime čoskoro.

Stories of Trenčín’s Distilling Heritage
Do you know Trenčín beyond its castle? For one day, the Old Herold distillery complex, normally closed to the public, will open its gates. A guided tour, exhibition, lecture, discussion and concert await you. Together, we will explore the story of the city from the 19th century to the present day.

Admission is free. Registration is required for the guided tour.
More than a story of alcohol
Distilling has been part of Trenčín for almost 150 years. Old Herold continues the tradition of a distillery founded in 1886. It is located in the former yeast factory complex dating from the 1930s, which is now one of the city’s industrial heritage sites. But there were many more liqueur producers in Trenčín and the surrounding region, and each of them tells us something about how people lived and worked here.
The stories of local distilleries reveal how Trenčín has changed. They tell us about industry and entrepreneurship, changing political regimes, design and advertising, architecture, and how our relationship with alcohol has evolved. We do not want to simply look back nostalgically at old factories and brands. Through local stories, we want to tell the bigger story of the 20th century.
The event will be hosted by writer Michal Hvorecký.

Guided tour of the Old Herold complex: discover the history of the distillery and see a demonstration of traditional distillation methods. Registration is required.
Exhibition – Trenčín Liqueur Producers from 1886 to the Present: a selection of archival materials from Old Herold.
Lecture on spirits design: discover how bottles and labels changed over time and how alcohol was promoted in different periods.
Discussion on distilling in Trenčín and the region: about the people and businesses that shaped the industry.

Do you have old photographs at home?
We are looking for historical photographs from family archives connected to liqueur producers in Trenčín and the surrounding region. We are interested in photographs from the workplace as well as leisure activities organised by companies for their employees.
Please send scanned photographs to [email protected]. You can also bring the originals to the Trenčín 2026 office (Palackého 37, 911 64 Trenčín), where we will scan them and return them to you.
We are collecting photographs until 19 October 2026.
