PROTOTYPE // Open studio for artists & makers

Part of our mission is to inspire artists to create new work, continue active artist research, and to test and play with new ideas and formats. But it can be challenging to prioritise and set aside time just to make!

Bring your workbook/laptop/contact sheets and spend time in our open-plan studio space working on whatever you choose. In a small group, this event is perfect for people looking for a chat, a bit of a community, or solo silent workers who just need to put headphones on and 'body double'.

AGITATE MAKER and HERO members can attend PROTOTYPE events free of charge as part of their membership. For other attendees there is a small ticket cost to contribute to studio materials.

This event runs every 3-months. The previous event will go ahead on Saturday 19 September 2026.

AGITATE is a community for photographers, but we want our PROTOTYPE events to feel welcoming and exciting to all creatives. You are welcome to bring any desk-based work with you, with the unfortunate exception of 'wet' practices like pottery or papier-mâché (this is a building rule). We have plenty of exhibition panels if you'd like to experiment with pinning/installing work, and floor space. See below for the kind of materials and equipment we have for folks to use during the session.

This event is open to everyone! Our shared studio space is part of Saltire Court, 20 Castle Terrace. Please let us know your planned arrival time if it differs from 11AM and one of us will need to eet you at reception. The venue is wheelchair accessible, our studio is on the second floor, accessible via stairs or lift. There is an accessible toilet and plenty of quiet breakout space if needed. We will provide light snacks in the studio, and have a coffee machine.

This is a ticketed event with limited capacity and you must book in order to attend. The £5 ticket price for non-members includes unlimited access to our printer, with ink provided. You will need to bring paper unless happy to use standard A4 copy paper, or are welcome to use the donated papers available (no guarantee on paper stock). Your contributions help us continue building AGITATE into something with a bigger output, and enable us to run various events on a 'pay what you can' basis. Thank you.
