About this Event
KNOWING FROM THE INSIDE: A PORTRAIT OF THE MUSIC INN - The Music Inn is one of the oldest music stores in New York City. It preserves, sells and restores traditional instruments from around the world. This film takes us on a journey through sound as it emerges from the encounter between musical instruments and humans. Along the way, we get to know the characters who keep this space alive as a haven for playfulness, community-making and repair. (25m, 2026, Director: Emilio Tamburini) + Director Q&A
DISOBEYING ORDERS: G.I. RESISTANCE TO THE VIETNAM WAR highlights the antiwar movement within the armed forces during the Vietnam War. Remastered to 4K and re-released in 2026, the film interweaves interviews with Vietnam veterans, archival photos, film footage, and popular music of the 1960's.
One Navy nurse coordinated an airdrop of antiwar leaflets over her the San Francisco Bay, for which she was court-martialed. A Black soldier spent time in the stockade for his protest of the military's racial discrimination. One powerful scene shows a group of high school students thoughtfully listening to the veterans’ experiences and advice regarding military recruitment.
This film highlights the intersection of the civil rights and antiwar movements, and the ethics of whether to follow orders that one feels are immoral. (29m, 2026, Director: Pam Sporn) + Director Q&A
AN ORDINARY INSANITY - In this award-winning documentary, renowned whistleblower Daniel Ellsberg provides a powerful wakeup call about the global threat posed by nuclear weapons and how we can dramatically reduce the real and present danger of nuclear annihilation.
Before he released the top secret Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War, Ellsberg was a nuclear war planner with access to classified information on U.S. nuclear strategy.
Filmed a year before his death at age 92, Ellsberg speaks with clarity and urgency about the dangers we face, noting, ”I’ve long said that to my last breath I will be doing what I can to postpone and avert the risk of nuclear war.”
With ongoing conflicts heightening nuclear tensions and with the recent end of the New START treaty triggering a costly, dangerous new arms race, An Ordinary Insanity is a timely film to help mobilize broad public concern and action for nuclear arms control and disarmament.
