About this Event
Please join the League of Women Voters of Greater Rockford (LWVGR), Rockford Area Moms Demand Action (RAMDA), and the Northern Illinois Center for Nonprofit Excellence (NICNE) as we build on the momentum of work being done to prevent youth gun violence in the Rockford area.
Your presence and perspective are vital. Together, we will turn our collective efforts into a lasting framework and approach that drives change.
Meeting Purpose
This meeting will move us from conversation into actionable next steps. We will focus on developing youth leadership and co-creating a long-term engagement plan.
Scope of Work
This phase builds on the work of Cohort 1. We will facilitate youth focus groups to understand the facts and root causes, co-create and implement solutions, and define a structure that sustains the youth movement. The work includes preparation and coordination with LWVGR YGVP and Moms Demand Action leaders, and may include engagement with other community leaders outside of the CCS meetings.

Why are we working to address youth gun possession and gun violence? Firearms are the leading cause of death for children and teens. Annually, more than 4,300 children and teens (ages 0 to 19) are shot and killed, and more than 17,000 are shot and wounded—that’s an average of 60 children and teens in the US, every day. An estimated three million children witness a shooting each year; Black and Latinx children and teens are impacted by gun violence at higher rates than their white peers. Gun violence can be reduced by addressing the root causes of youth gun possession.
