About this Event
Do you have a shoebox filled with stained, handwritten recipe cards, index cards with faded ink, or fragile clippings of beloved family meals? Over time, paper degrades, writing fades, and kitchen spills happen.
Join us at the Randolph County Agriculture Center for a free, hands-on workshop dedicated to preserving your family's culinary legacy. Beyond saving physical cards, this session will guide you through digitizing your collection using both mobile devices and specialized scanning hardware, helping you take the first steps toward building a shareable, printable family cookbook that can be gifted or passed down for generations.
What You Will Learn
- Preservation Basics: Best practices for safely cleaning, handling, and storing delicate paper recipes and vintage cookbooks.
- Multi-Device Digitization: Practical techniques for digitizing recipes using your smartphone camera, high-resolution Epson flatbed photo scanners, and a CZUR overhead book scanner for bound or delicate materials.
- In-Class Computer Practice: Hands-on guidance using provided MacBook Air workstations to organize and back up your digital recipe files.
- First Steps to a Custom Cookbook: Simple workflows for organizing your digitized collection into printable recipe book layouts, combining memories with photos, and choosing affordable self-printing options.
- Sharing Your Legacy: Easy ways to share interactive digital archives and PDF cookbooks with relatives near and far.
