San Francisco Backcountry Skiers Free Avalanche Awareness Seminars plus Q&A
We are pleased to announce we have once again partnered with long-time group member and Tahoe/Lassen local Richard Bothwell of the Outdoor Adventure Club & SlabLab.co to bring two free avalanche awareness seminars to San Francisco Sports Basement Bryant St. Come out to learn about winter travel safety and meet some other backcountry enthusiasts. We will have discount vouchers for Sports Basement, 11% off for all attendees, 20% off for Basementers, good until Monday 23 November
Richard has created two distinct seminars this year. One is geared toward folks who are new to the backcountry, and the other is designed for people who have taken an avalanche class, and want to get something other than a basic awareness presentation. All are welcome to either free event.
Nov 17 5:30-7:30pm - Prepping for an AIARE 1
Geared toward new winter backcountry skiers and riders, for people who have not had formal avalanche classes.
Are you new to backcountry travel on snow? Are you taking or looking to take an AIARE 1 course? Want to know what the steps are to be ready to leave the resort? Are you looking to understand what is in an avalanche forecast, how much education you need, or where to get that education? Were you aware there is an avalanche forecast? Not sure what gear you need? Come on out to ask your questions and find out how to get on the path to safe winter travel.

Nov 19 5:30-7:30pm - Avalanche Awareness For Backcountry Skiers and Boarders: Beyond AIARE 1, plus Q&A
Geared toward people who have taken an avalanche class, have questions, and want a tune up before the ski season starts.
You’ve taken an Avalanche Class, now how do you put it into practice? This will be an evening geared toward people who have questions or confusion after taking a formal avalanche class, like an AIARE 1. We’ll explore the gaps between what you learned in class and the decisions you make in the backcountry:
• How do you put your training into practice?
• What still feels unclear?
• What should you work on next?
