FOSTERING PEACE FOR 20 YEARS | FOMENTANDO LA PAZ DURANTE 20 AÑOSPrepare
As autumn grows colder, many people’s thoughts turn to finding the gloves they stored away last spring, wondering where the ice scraper for the car windows went to, and preparing for holidays. I do that, but I also wonder about the homeless man, Phil, whom I have not seen since last autumn. I don’t know if he survived the last winter. And I wonder about Mr. A., who is recently homeless due to a health catastrophe, but since his car was repossessed all I know is that he was looking for a wooded area to camp in. And I think of Mr. M, who is doing okay; he got his life together with the help of Mel Trotter and might get to experience winter from a heated building this year. And then there’s Mr. H., dying from cancer, living in his car but unable to afford much fuel, forget about insurance. Physically, I might be walking in their footsteps some day without warning.
St. Paul cautions us that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. Will I be alert and spiritually prepared in the same way that I am physically preparing for winter? Or will I be caught off-guard? My prayer life connects me to the only salvation that exists. Within our darkest night, the Holy Spirit kindles the fire that never dies away in our hearts.
We invite you to bolster your prayer life by praying together, listening, singing, and resting in God’s presence. The Prayer of Peace is a monthly contemplative Christian prayer in the spirit of Taizé using scripture, song, and silence. Ecumenical, it is accessible for Christians of all denominations. Contemplative and musical, it includes many simple, short, repetitive songs that foster meditation.
A connection to a pdf edition of the program will be available at the prayerofpeacegr.org web site.
