About this Event
NXTHVN is pleased to present a public conversation with Derek Fordjour featuring MacArthur Fellows Titus Kaphar and Dr. Imani Perry. This conversation coincides with the opening celebration of Fordjour’s exhibition, Fumble, which runs from 2PM-6PM on October 4, and guest role as NXTHVN’s Fall 2026 Visiting Artist. This program provides a focused discussion on artistic practice, narrative power, and the role of artists in civic life. The discussion will address how artists shape public understanding, how personal and collective histories inform creative work, and how institutions can better support emerging talent.
The talk is supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, as part of the Defying Boundaries: MacArthur Fellows at 45.
This moment calls for creative courage. For 45 years, MacArthur Fellows have expanded the boundaries of possibility by questioning conventions, crossing disciplines, and driving collective progress. Throughout 2026, the Foundation is celebrating the groundbreaking work of the Fellows and inspiring public dialogue through a series of nationwide events and conversations.
