About this Event
Learn what to plant. Learn why it matters. Then get growing.
Pollinators need us, and sometimes helping them can begin right in our own gardens.
Join us for a 2-hour Patch Pollinator Plant Workshop created in collaboration with the UF/IFAS Extension Master Gardener Program, led by our Edible Garden Specialist alongside two UF/IFAS Extension Master Gardener Program Interns.
Together, we’ll explore which Florida native plants are best for supporting bees, butterflies and other pollinators, and how you can begin creating a more pollinator-friendly growing space of your own.
This workshop is designed to be practical, approachable and hands-on. You’ll leave with new knowledge, growing inspiration and a deeper understanding of how the plants we choose can support the wider ecosystem.
What You’ll Learn
During the workshop, we’ll explore:
- Florida native plants that support pollinators
- What bees, butterflies and other pollinators need to thrive
- How to choose plants for a pollinator-friendly garden
- Simple ways to get started growing at home
- How thoughtful planting can support a healthier local ecosystem
- Lessons from our Edible Garden Specialist and UF/IFAS Extension Master Gardener Program interns
More Than a Gardening Workshop
At Patch, gardening is also part of something bigger.
Our mission is to reconnect Human Nature with Mother Nature through mindful environmental awareness, for the betterment of both.
As we learn about the plants that nourish pollinators, we’ll also slow down enough to notice the relationships happening all around us: between flowers and bees, butterflies and host plants, healthy gardens and healthy communities.
Because when we care for the living world, we become more connected to it too.
Who Is This For?
This workshop is perfect for:
Beginner gardeners • Pollinator lovers • Butterfly and bee enthusiasts • Native plant beginners • Anyone ready to grow with more purpose
No prior gardening experience is necessary.

Greenhouse Corodinator & Edible Food Garden Specialist
Beverly Williams brings over 40 years of diverse agricultural experience to her work. Her journey began in her youth, growing alongside her father while helping to develop an orange grove. Over the years, she has expanded her expertise through large-scale operations, including work with The Village Grown, a 15-acre hydroponic farm, as well as involvement in numerous community-based agricultural projects throughout Polk County, Florida.
Although she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Health Administration, Beverly’s deep-rooted passion for agriculture ultimately guided her back to the field she loves most. Inspired by her favorite quote, “Do what you love, love what you do,” her dedication to growing and nurturing food has shaped her path and purpose.
Today, that passion continues to flourish in her role at Patch of Heaven Sanctuary, where she shares her knowledge and commitment to sustainable, edible gardening.
Irene is a STEM educator recently retired from Boston University. Throughout her academic career, she focused on sustainability and community gardening initiatives. She is also a current UF/IFAS Master Gardener Intern.
