Described by the New York Times as an “eloquent soloist”, pianist Katherine Dowling brings us “Poetry of Dreamers”—a collection of poetic beauty, seamlessly interweaving the Romantics with dreamers of today.Robert Schumann’s creative process was influenced by his dreams. He also described Frédéric Chopin’s playing as if the composer were “lost in his dreams”. Chopin’s preludes are the inspiration for Reena Esmail’s collection of the same. Of dreams, Alexander Scriabin wrote “Colours blaze up, feelings and dreams emerge…I create”. Emily Doolittle’s Stravaig (“roam” in Scots) depicts the dreamiest of wanderings in the Scottish highlands. Isang Yun and Rudolf Escher depended on their dreams to sustain them through war, with light and courage triumphing in both works below.
In the words of Rainer Maria Rilke: “Right in the difficult…we must have our dreams. There against the depth of this background, they stand out, there for the first time we see how beautiful they are.”
