About this Event
Join us for an evening of poetry, shared stories and connection, hosted by Woman’s Trust Ambassador and poet Rachel Tansy Chadwick and marking Woman’s Trust’s 30th anniversary and 16 Days of Activism
Poetry can give words to experiences that are difficult to express, bring people together and help voices be heard. This event is an opportunity to celebrate the power of words, listen to one another and share poetry in a welcoming, inclusive space.
The event follows Woman’s Trust’s 30th anniversary gathering, where Rachel performed A Sisterhood of Lions, with the words:
“As lions we whisper loudly a deafening truth of surviving and going on.”
The poem reflects the strength, solidarity and resilience of women rebuilding their lives beyond domestic abuse. These themes also run through Still, She Speaks, Woman’s Trust’s collection of poems and reflections by women supported by the charity.
Whether you’d like to perform a poem, share something you’ve written, or simply come along to listen, you are warmly invited. You don’t need to be an experienced poet to take part - just bring yourself and an openness to hearing different voices and perspectives.
Taking place at the start of 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, the event is also an opportunity to reflect on the importance of listening to women’s experiences and creating space for their voices to be heard.
This event is kindly supported by Arcadis, who will be providing the venue and refreshments.
