About this Event
The Instituto Cervantes in Manchester invites you to the third session of Poetry Encounters, featuring a conversation between Spanish-Moroccan poet Fátima Saheb and academic Supriya Dhaliwal.
Created to promote the translation of Spanish poetry into English, Poetry Encounters is a collaborative initiative developed alongside translation students from the University of Liverpool.
The event will showcase readings of Fátima’s poetry in the original Spanish alongside their English translations. Following the readings, the discussion will delve into both the creative craft of the work - its motifs, imagery, and structure, and the nuanced process of translating poetry between languages. The conversation will also trace Fátima’s literary trajectory and the broader context of her work.
The dialogue will conclude with an audience Q&A, offering a unique opportunity to engage directly with both speakers on contemporary literature, poetry, and translation.
The event will be held in English and is free to attend until full capacity is reached.
El Instituto Cervantes de Mánchester le invita a la tercera sesión de Encuentros Poéticos, que contará con una conversación entre la poeta hispano-marroquí Fátima Saheb y la académica Supriya Dhaliwal.
Creado para promover la traducción de la poesía española al inglés, Encuentros Poéticos es una iniciativa colaborativa desarrollada junto con estudiantes de traducción de la Universidad de Liverpool.
El evento incluirá lecturas de la poesía de Fátima en su versión original en español junto con sus traducciones al inglés. Tras las lecturas, el diálogo profundizará tanto en la creación artística de la obra - sus motivos, imágenes y estructura, como en el matizado proceso de traducir poesía entre diferentes idiomas. La conversación también recorrerá la trayectoria literaria de Fátima y el contexto más amplio de su trabajo.
El diálogo concluirá con una sesión de preguntas y respuestas con el público, ofreciendo una oportunidad única para interactuar directamente con ambas ponentes sobre literatura contemporánea, poesía y traducción.
El evento se desarrollará en inglés y la entrada es gratuita hasta completar aforo.
