About this Event
Free. Drop in. Everyone welcome.
A Tide Café is a chance to sit down, have a free cup of tea and a slice of cake, and chat about the sea.
Everyone has a story to share. It might start with one simple question: what does the sea mean to you? After that, we can talk about anything.
Stay for ten minutes or stay much longer. You don't need to book. Just come along.
At each Tide Café, you'll meet people who know the sea in all sorts of different ways.
Meet the Intertidal artist
David Cotterrell is making a big new artwork for Plymouth called Intertidal. He loves how the sea and the land meet, and how the tides change our city every day. Come and hear about it and tell him what you notice about the sea.
Meet the hosts
Emily Wood – a BBC Weather presenter. Emily tells people what the weather will be like each day, including how wind, rain and storms can change the sea.
Mallory Haas - an archaeologist and diver. Mallory swims down to explore old shipwrecks under the water, and helps clear rubbish like old tyres out of the sea.
Sarah Walker - a Coastguard rescue officer who swims in the sea and teaches paddleboarding. She spends lots of time on and in the water near Cawsand.
Phil Robins - a local fisherman who goes out in a small boat. Phil loves the sea and wants to look after it so there are still fish for years to come.
Sam Balderson - the Head Ranger at Plymouth Sound National Marine Park. Sam dives with his camera to photograph the amazing creatures under the sea, and helps out as a crew member on the Plymouth lifeboat.
Come and join the chat!
