About this Event
On behalf of the Ringsend and District Historical Society, we are delighted to announce our upcoming commerative plaque unveiling and celebration evening honouring 'The Blades' first ever gig in the local CYMS Hall way back in 1977.
Six young local teenagers - Lar Cleary, Paul Cleary, Pat Larkin, Joe Donnelly, Johnny Burke and Liam Fagan - greatly influenced by the then burgeoning punk rock movement in the UK, started a band and got a chance to play their first gig as part of the then teenage disco all those years ago.
Nobody knew then how important that gig would be as from it the seed was sown which created the classic three piece pop punk band which from 1979 to late 1982 left such an incredible mark on the Irish music scene. This was the first renaissance of The Blades and all of the original six from CYMS gig alongside the soon to be trimmed down trio were Ringsenders - this is our way as a community to honour and remember those early days when The Blades truly put Ringsend on the map.
Our night takes place on SATURDAY NOVEMBER 23RD @ 7PM and will include a DJ set, commemorative video, guest speakers, two guest bands playing short sets of early Blades numbers, Q+A session on those early days, plaque unveiling, refreshments etc.
Please note -- The Blades will not be playing on the night - past or present.
This night is to commemorate their very first gig as a six piece back in the CYMS Hall in 1977. Paul, Pat, Joe, Johnny and Liam have all accepted our invitation to be part of the night.
It's also a fitting tribute to the late Lar Cleary who sadly passed away in 2018.
Limited FREE tickets are available.
Ringsend and District Historical Society thank DCC for plaque sponsorship and GOOGLE for event sponsorship for this project.
It will be another night to remember!
