About this Event
The event will be held in the larger room at Tea By The Lock. Those who come to the workshop will be welcome to buy refreshements at the lovely plant-based tearoom.
The workshop is run by a talented local artist, who often uses hand-made and home-made art supplies made from plant-based materials.
If you are new to art, this is a great chance to try some materials, and if you have already done some painting and drawing, it's a great chance to try some less-common materials.
The exact materials available will vary, and not all colours may be available, due to the seasonal nature of many of the supplies - especially those locally foraged.
I won't be explaining in depth how the materials, such as inks, are made, as that will be the subject of other workshops, but I will explain some general information to help you understand what you will be working with.
I will provide some examples of my work and experiments as inspiration, explain the materials and give a demonstration, and then you will be free to have a go yourself.
There will be a selection of art materials to share and try, including plant-based inks and charcoal, and varied surfaces. If you wanted to bring your own sketchbook or paper to work on, or if you have favourite brushes you wish to use, you'd be welcome to do so, but there will be no need.
If you are worried about getting messy (some of the inks are permanent), you may wish to bring an apron and gloves, and you may wish to wear old clothes and it is worth remembering your glasses if you wear them.
Some of the materials may contain allergens such as nuts, pips or seeds, and some people can find the ink from rosehips to make them feel itchy so gloves are useful.
Tea By The Lock is a wonderful venue, and the location itself offers a relaxed atmosphere, is dog-friendly, and is close to both a bus stop and the lock carpark. It is past the caravan park, down the track through the gate, and to the right, by the Lock.
