Planetarium Mobilis is an immersive art experience that features local ambient musicians and images from space projected on a planetarium screen. The audience will lounge on yoga mats and pillows to experience this one hour performance and video installation. Traditional seating is also available. Herbal tea will be served before and after the performance. Street parking is plentiful and you can grab some excellent tacos at El Fenix if you are peckish before lift off. Their truck is in front of the pink Factory on 5th building. Justine's, Central Machine Works, and Kinda Tropical are also just blocks away.
On Dec 4, ambient classical duo Highway Lights will premier a new video presentation that accompanies their 2024 album, A Space of Partial Illumination. This program has the total solar eclipse on April 8, 2026 as its inspiration. The album features sweeping cello solos, swirling synthesizers, and immersive sound design that synchronizes with the moon's journey along the path of totality from the viewpoint of Austin, Texas. Video artist Lyon Graulty will recreate the eclipse experience on the Rocket Cinema planetarium screen.
Highway Lights is cellist Sara Nelson (Austin Symphony) and pianist composer Justin Sherburn (Montopolis). Influenced by Brian Eno, Arvo Pärt and Stars of the Lid, their music features sweeping cello solos and immersive drone sculptures, the perfect accompaniment for a journey through the galaxy. Listen to Highway Lights on Bandcamp.
